At OneFaxNow a cover page counts as a page, so a 10-page document with a cover sheet is an 11-page fax at $10.00.

When does a plan cost less than paying per fax?

At one fax a month. A fax of up to 10 pages is $6.50 at OneFaxNow or SingleFax and $9.99 at TidyFax, and a month of Basic is $5.99. The arithmetic:

  • One fax a month for a year is $78.00 at $6.50 and $119.88 at $9.99. Basic is $71.88 month to month and $59.88 billed annually.
  • Four faxes in a month are $26.00 at $6.50, against $5.99 for the month.
  • Thirty faxes of 10 pages, 300 pages in all, are $195.00 at $6.50. On Basic that is $5.99 plus 100 extra pages at 10¢, or $15.99.
  • One 30-page fax is $10.00 at OneFaxNow or SingleFax, against 30 of Basic's 200 pages.

On annual billing Basic is $59.88 a year. Nine faxes at $6.50 come to $58.50 and ten to $65.00, so the tenth fax of the year is the one that pushes pay-per-fax past a year of Basic. At TidyFax's $9.99 it is the sixth, at $59.94.

By the page, a full 10-page fax at $6.50 is 65¢ a page. Basic's 200 pages for $5.99 come to about 3¢ a page. Past 200 pages, extra pages are billed at 10¢ on a separate invoice, and faxes keep arriving.

What does the free first fax cover?

Confirm your email and send one fax of up to 10 pages, with no credit card, from Fax Pigeon's shared number under the same signed BAA. For a one-time need of 10 pages or fewer that is $0, against $6.50 or $9.99.

For a longer one-time fax, a month of Basic is $5.99 against $10.00 for 11 to 50 pages at OneFaxNow or 11 to 100 at SingleFax. You can cancel anytime in Settings and keep service to the end of the paid period, and a full refund is available within 72 hours of the first payment, once per customer.

How do pay-per-fax services handle the BAA?

HIPAA calls for a written agreement with a vendor that creates, receives, maintains or transmits a practice's patient information on its behalf (45 CFR 160.103, 164.502(e) and 164.504(e)). The three services handle it three ways. OneFaxNow generates and executes a BAA electronically at checkout, with no account. TidyFax has you verify your email and accept its BAA before you choose a document, and the agreement covers one fax: 'A later submission requires its own acceptance record.' SingleFax has an authorized signer accept its BAA electronically before the first upload and records the acceptance for your organization.

Fax Pigeon's BAA is signed once, at signup, on every plan, and the free first fax sits under the same agreement (the BAA).

Can you receive HIPAA faxes without a subscription?

Not from OneFaxNow or TidyFax. OneFaxNow is outbound only, and TidyFax provides no incoming number. SingleFax sells its fax numbers separately from its pay-per-fax send. Every paid Fax Pigeon plan includes your own dedicated fax number that sends and receives, under the signed BAA.

Who should switch from pay per fax to a plan?

  • A practice that sends a fax in most months. From the first fax, the month costs $5.99 on Basic against $6.50 or $9.99 per fax.
  • A practice that receives faxes. Pay per fax is outbound only, and every paid Fax Pigeon plan includes your own number, from $4.99 a month billed annually.
  • A practice that sends documents of more than 10 pages. At OneFaxNow or SingleFax each is $10.00 per fax, and on Basic each draws from a 200-page month.

Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA executed at signup, unlimited people at no extra cost and your own dedicated number that sends and receives. The pricing page lists all six plans, and the 200-page and 500-page price comparison sets them beside other providers.
