Is iPlum fax HIPAA compliant?
iPlum lists a BAA only on its Professional fax plan, $12.99 a month billed annually per line, and prints no page count. Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA.

Among iPlum's two fax plans, only Professional lists HIPAA compliance and a Business Associate Agreement (BAA): $12.99 a month billed annually or $15.99 month to month, for each fax line. Standard, $8.99 or $11.99, lists neither, and neither plan prints a page count. Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA, executed at signup, from $4.99 a month billed annually.
Fax Pigeon sells HIPAA fax, so this page compares our plans with iPlum's.
Which iPlum fax plan includes a BAA?
Professional does. Its card lists HIPAA Compliance and a Business Associate Agreement next to Fax Backup and Security & Archive (1 Year). The Standard card lists none of the four, and iPlum's pricing blog sums Standard up as having no HIPAA and no archiving. A HIPAA Compliance badge in the pricing page header sits above both tabs, and the Standard fax card beneath it carries no HIPAA line.
iPlum's help article names Professional or Enterprise as the plans that carry the BAA. Enterprise sits on the Phone tab, and the fax tab has no Enterprise plan. The HIPAA FAQ adds that some existing customers may hold legacy plans or Security & Backup add-ons that iPlum calls eligible.
iPlum's fax page says "every iPlum number has its own BAA." The download path below starts from the line's own login ID.
What does an iPlum fax line cost with a BAA?
The fax cards print no unit beside the price. iPlum's fax setup article has an administrator add each fax line as its own user and pick a plan for it, and its pricing blog prices three fax lines at $38.97, or $12.99 each. Each column below is one fax number.
| One fax number | iPlum Standard | iPlum Professional | Fax Pigeon Basic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Billed annually, per month | $8.99 | $12.99 | $4.99 |
| Month to month | $11.99 | $15.99 | $5.99 |
| BAA on the plan | None listed | Listed, one per number | Signed at signup |
| Pages a month | Not printed | Not printed | 200, sent and received |
| Past the included usage | 1¢ a credit, credits per page not printed | 1¢ a credit, credits per page not printed | 10¢ a page |
Stepping a line from Standard to Professional adds $4.00 a month, billed annually or month to month.
Does iPlum print a page count for fax?
No. Neither fax card prints a page count or a per-page price. The fax tab labels its number prices unlimited and footnotes that unlimited plans follow fair usage guidelines. The privacy page turns the guideline into a figure, 2,500 usage credits per billing cycle for each plan, and says fax lines fall under the same limit. It describes credits as spent on calls and text messages and gives no credit cost for a fax page.
Past the allowance a credit costs 1¢. Auto-Load buys 2,000 credits for $20 when the balance runs low, and extra credits last up to 12 months, or until the line is canceled, whichever comes first. In the monthly view the fax tab also prices a US number two ways, $11.99 unlimited or $5.99 measured at 200 credits. Neither card lists features, so neither shows a BAA line.
Fax Pigeon's Basic plan states its budget: 200 pages a month, sent and received together, with extra pages at 10¢. The pricing page lists all six plans.
How do you get iPlum's BAA?
From an administrator login, one line at a time. iPlum's help article sends the administrator to my.iplum.com, then Dashboard, Users, the line's iPlum Login ID, Compliance and HIPAA Compliance, where the BAA downloads. On a plan without it, the system prompts an upgrade.
The HIPAA Compliance Set Up article repeats that each number has its own BAA and says to contact iPlum for the steps. The link on the fax page for getting a BAA opens iPlum's page on HIPAA calling and texting, which has no form and no agreement text. iPlum's blog post on this question says iPlum offers a signed BAA, names no plan and does not mention fax.
Fax Pigeon's BAA is executed at signup on every plan.
What does HIPAA say about a fax vendor's BAA?
A business associate creates, receives, maintains or transmits protected health information for a covered entity (45 CFR 160.103), and the covered entity documents the assurances it obtains from one in a written contract or other written agreement (45 CFR 164.502(e)). The BAA explainer covers when a fax service is a business associate. The list of fax services that sign a BAA places iPlum among those that reserve the agreement for higher plans.
Who should switch from iPlum?
- A practice on Standard, where no BAA is listed, or on Professional at $12.99 to $15.99 a line. Fax Pigeon's Basic plan is $4.99 billed annually, or $5.99 month to month, with the BAA signed at signup, your own number and 200 pages.
- A team that shares one fax line. iPlum's shared line article says each user needs an active Professional or Enterprise subscription to use the feature, and Fax Pigeon includes unlimited people at no extra cost.
- A practice that wants a refund path. iPlum's refund policy makes every plan prepaid and non-refundable, and Fax Pigeon gives a full refund within 72 hours of the first payment (once per customer).
- A practice that may move its number later. iPlum's refund policy attaches a mandatory unlocking fee to porting a number out. At Fax Pigeon porting in is free on every paid plan and porting out is free, and how to port a fax number before you cancel has the order.
