eFax pricing, explained
eFax Personal is $18.99 and Business is $39.99, before the $10 overage wallet, per-attempt billing, $5 numbers, $10 users and the $40 port-out fee. What a solo practice actually pays, verified September 2, 2026, and the $4.99 alternative.

eFax's list price is $18.99 or $39.99 a month. The bill a small practice actually pays is higher, because the fees live in the terms of service rather than on the price card, and the plan that includes a Business Associate Agreement is the $39.99 one. Here is the full cost, line by line, and what the same faxing costs at Fax Pigeon.
The price card
| eFax plan | Month to month | Billed annually | Pages a month | Overage | BAA |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | $18.99 | $189.96 a year ($15.83 a month) | 200 | $0.10 a page | Listed as HIPAA Compliant; confirm the BAA in writing |
| Business | $39.99 | $399.96 a year ($33.33 a month) | 500 | $0.07 a page | Yes |
| Corporate | By quote | By quote | Custom | Custom | Yes |
Add-ons on the same page: an extra 500-page block for $25, an extra user for $10 a month, an extra fax number for $5 a month. eFax advertises "Save up to 17%" for annual billing.
eFax Protect, the plan most comparison articles still quote at $49.99, is gone. Its page now redirects to eFax's general cloud faxing page and it does not appear on the pricing page. If you are evaluating eFax for a practice that handles patient information, the plan you are actually evaluating is Business.
The fees in the terms
Each item below is from eFax's customer agreement or its cancellation help page.
- Every attempt is billed. eFax "will bill You for each attempt made by the Company to send the fax where any transmission occurs whether or not the transmission is completed." A busy line on the other end costs pages.
- The $10 wallet. The first time you exceed your pages, eFax charges a $10 "Usage Prepay Amount" to your card without a separate authorization, draws overage from it, and charges another $10 each time the balance falls to $2. Unused balance is "non-refundable" and forfeited when you cancel.
- $40 to take your number with you. Releasing a number to another provider costs $40 per number, requires 30 days' notice after termination, and if any condition is missed eFax "shall remain the customer of record of the number(s)."
- No refund for a period that has started. "Cancellation on the first day, or any day, of a monthly period shall be considered as Your usage for that monthly period and no refund shall be made." Prepaid discount offers are "COMPLETELY NON-REFUNDABLE" in eFax's own capitals.
- Late fee and reactivation fee. $4.95 for a missed payment; a reactivation fee "may apply" after a suspension.
- Storage is capped, and closure erases it. Personal accounts keep faxes six months, Business twelve, and "once your account is closed, you will no longer be able to access your fax documents."
- Cancellation is not always self-serve. Annual plans, accounts with more than one number, and accounts with a balance are directed to contact an agent rather than cancel in the portal.
A worked month
A solo practice that sends and receives about 230 pages in a month, on the plan that includes a BAA:
| eFax Business | Fax Pigeon, 500 pages | |
|---|---|---|
| Plan, month to month | $39.99 | $11.99 |
| Pages included | 500 | 500 |
| Overage on 230 pages | none | none |
| A second person in the office | +$10.00 a month | Included; every plan has unlimited people |
| Wallet charged on first overage month | $10.00 | none |
| Leaving with your number | $40.00 per number | free |
| First-month refund if it is not for you | none | full refund within 72 hours |
On annual billing the same practice pays $33.33 a month at eFax and $9.99 at Fax Pigeon. At 200 pages the gap is wider: eFax Personal is $15.83 to $18.99, and Fax Pigeon's 200-page plan is $4.99 with the BAA included at signup.
Why the list price understates it
eFax bills the way a phone company bills: a base rate, then usage in units you do not control, topped up from a wallet you did not open. The practices that feel it are the ones with a busy referral fax on the other end (every attempt is a page) and the ones that grow (every user is $10, every number is $5). Fax Pigeon bills the way software bills: one price, a page budget you can see in your account, a per-page rate past it that every plan shows (10¢ on the 200-page plan, down to 2¢ on the largest) on the next invoice, and unlimited people on every plan, at one price sized by pages.
What every Fax Pigeon plan includes
A signed BAA at signup (public at ), your own local number with free porting both ways, an AI summary of every inbound fax, e-signatures, cover sheets, contact management, a delivery certificate on every fax, records kept for the life of your account, our own fax servers carrying every call, and fax to email as a secure link (every received fax mails you the sender's number, the page count and a link; the document stays behind your login). Send a fax by email on every paid plan: from your account's email address, mail one PDF to the recipient's number at fax.faxpigeon.com and it goes out as a fax from your own number. Plans and the full comparison are on the pricing page.
If you are already on eFax, the order that protects your number is port first, cancel second: How to cancel eFax and keep your fax number.
