Fax Pigeon vs Documo

For 300 pages a month, Documo's Solo plan is $25 a month billed annually for one user, and Fax Pigeon's Standard plan is $9.99 billed annually for 500 pages and unlimited people. Every plan at both services includes a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). At 1,500 pages Documo's Business plan is $80 billed annually, or $100 monthly, against $29.99, or $33.99 month to month, for Fax Pigeon's Pro plan with 2,000 pages. At 6,000 pages Documo's Enterprise plan is $240 billed annually, against $79.99 for Fax Pigeon's Premium plan with 1,000 extra pages.

How much does Documo cost next to Fax Pigeon?

Documo's pricing page lists Solo, Business and Enterprise, each setting pages and users together. A Fax Pigeon plan sets pages alone, because people are unlimited on every plan. Every plan in the table includes a BAA.

At 6,000 pages the Fax Pigeon figure is Premium's $49.99 plus $30.00 for the 1,000 extra pages, or $59.99 plus $30.00 month to month. Billed annually, Documo costs 2.5 times Standard at 300 pages, 2.7 times Pro at 1,500 pages and 3 times Premium with extra pages at 6,000. The gap is $15.01 a month at 300 pages, $50.01 at 1,500 and $160.01 at 6,000. A year of Documo Business is $960 against $359.88 for Pro.

Past the page budget Documo bills 15¢ a page on Solo, 9¢ on Business and 7¢ on Enterprise. Fax Pigeon bills 5¢ on Standard, 3.5¢ on Pro and 3¢ on Premium, and faxes keep arriving. Documo includes 1, 10 or 50 users and charges $3.00 for each user beyond that. Fax Pigeon includes unlimited people on every plan, with a shared inbox with roles and assignment.

How does Documo count pages?

Documo's agreement bases its per-page prices on a 60-second transmission time. The Charges section of its Fax Addendum says: 'pages that take longer to transmit may be charged as multiple pages.' A plan's 300 pages can therefore run out before 300 pages of fax have gone through.

Fax Pigeon's budgets are stated in pages a month, sent and received combined. Extra pages are billed at the plan's per-page rate on a separate invoice.

Who owns a Documo fax number?

Documo does. The Fax Addendum in its subscription agreement says: 'you are not the owner of any Documo fax number assigned to you by Documo Inc.' Porting out is, in its words, a 'general business practice' on request after termination, and the agreement says the number 'may be reassigned immediately (although there is typically a transition period) to another customer.'

At Fax Pigeon, porting in is free on every paid plan and porting out is free, and Documo keeps the number working until the port lands, which takes most transfers 5 to 15 business days.

What does every Fax Pigeon plan include?

Every plan includes a signed BAA executed at signup, free number porting and unlimited people, with no per-user charge like Documo's $3.00, and the six plans differ in page budget and extra-page rate, both on the pricing page.

The first fax is free: confirm your email and send one fax of up to 10 pages, no credit card, under the same signed BAA.

Who should switch from Documo?

Three kinds of Documo account should switch.

• A practice on Solo with more than one person. Every user past the first is $3.00, and Standard includes unlimited people and 500 pages for $9.99 billed annually.
• A practice on Business or Enterprise. At 1,500 pages that is $80 billed annually against $29.99; at 6,000 pages it is $240 against $79.99.
• A practice whose fax number is on letterhead and in payer files. Documo's agreement says Documo owns the number and may reassign it after termination.

Documo's agreement lets it reassign a number after termination, so the order matters: start the port while the Documo account is open, and cancel only after the number lands, as the steps for moving a number without a gap set out.
