Fax Pigeon vs Fax.Plus
Fax.Plus signs a BAA only on Enterprise, which starts at $79.99 a month billed annually for 4,000 pages. Fax Pigeon's Basic plan is $4.99 billed annually for 200 pages, with the BAA on every plan.

A practice that needs a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) pays Fax.Plus from $79.99 a month billed annually, or from $99.99 month to month, because the BAA comes only with its Enterprise plan, which covers 4,000 pages. Fax Pigeon's Basic plan is $4.99 billed annually for 200 pages, Standard is $9.99 for 500 and Plus is $16.99 for 1,000, each with the BAA included. At the same page counts Fax.Plus's Basic, Premium and Business plans cost more than Fax Pigeon's and carry no BAA. Fax.Plus also gives no refund for a past subscription charge, and a number it assigns cannot be ported out.
How much does Fax.Plus cost with a BAA?
Enterprise is the only Fax.Plus plan with a BAA. It starts at $99.99 a month, or $959.99 a year billed annually, and includes 4,000 pages and unlimited members. A practice that needs 200, 500 or 1,000 pages buys 4,000 to get the agreement. Each plan's page budget covers pages sent and received together.

A year of Enterprise starts at $959.99. A year of Basic is $59.88, Standard $119.88, Plus $203.88 and Premium $599.88, all billed annually. On annual billing Enterprise costs 16 times Basic, 8 times Standard and 4.7 times Plus. At 4,000 pages it costs $360.11 a year more than Premium, which has 1,000 pages more.
Fax.Plus's Basic, Premium and Business plans, which carry no BAA, cost more than Fax Pigeon's at the same pages. Billed annually, Basic is $6.99 against $4.99 for 200 pages, Premium is $13.99 against $9.99 for 500, and Business is $27.99 against $16.99 for 1,000. Basic and Premium include one member each and Business five. Every Fax Pigeon plan includes unlimited people at no extra cost.
Which Fax.Plus plans carry a BAA?
Only Enterprise. Fax.Plus's pricing page says: 'HIPAA compliance with BAA is available on the Enterprise plan only.' Its help center lists Free, Pay-As-You-Go, Basic, Premium and Business as 'Not HIPAA-compliant. Do not use for PHI.' On Enterprise the BAA is the last of five setup steps, after Advanced Security Controls are switched on: 'Request and sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).' The plan-by-plan detail is in Is Fax.Plus HIPAA compliant?.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule calls for a written contract or agreement between a covered entity and a business associate that creates, receives, maintains or transmits its patient information (45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.504(e)). Fax Pigeon executes its BAA at signup on every plan, and the free first fax, one fax of up to 10 pages with no credit card, falls under it. The agreement is at faxpigeon.com/baa.
Can you take a Fax.Plus number with you?
Only a number that came from somewhere else. Fax.Plus's help center says: 'Numbers that were assigned to you directly from the Fax.Plus number pool cannot be ported out or purchased.' Its terms add: 'You have no title over Fax.Plus Numbers.' A lapsed plan loses its number. Fax.Plus revokes random numbers 21 days after deactivation on Basic and Premium and 30 days after on Business and Enterprise, and may then allocate them to someone else. Porting a US number in takes Premium or higher.
Fax Pigeon charges nothing to port a number in on a paid plan or out; a number ported into Fax.Plus stays active there while the transfer runs, 5 to 15 business days for most numbers.
What is the Fax.Plus refund policy?
Fax.Plus gives no refund for a past subscription charge. Its help center says: 'Subscription charges (monthly or annual): no refunds for past charges, including the most recent one.' The same page answers 'Will I be charged automatically?' with 'Yes, all plans auto-renew.' Fax Pigeon refunds in full within 72 hours of the first payment, once per customer. A cancellation in Settings keeps service to the end of the paid period.
What does every Fax Pigeon plan include?
Every Fax Pigeon plan has the signed BAA that Fax.Plus limits to Enterprise, with unlimited people and free number porting, and only the page budget and the extra-page rate change from plan to plan, all six on the pricing page.
Who should switch from Fax.Plus?
Three kinds of Fax.Plus account should switch.
- A practice on Enterprise for the BAA. At 500 pages that is from $79.99 a month billed annually, against $9.99 for Standard, which includes the BAA.
- A practice on Basic, Premium or Business that sends patient information. Fax.Plus's help center marks those plans 'Not HIPAA-compliant. Do not use for PHI.' Basic puts a signed BAA on the account at $4.99 a month billed annually.
- A practice with more than one person. A team with a BAA on Fax.Plus means Enterprise; Fax Pigeon includes unlimited people on every plan.
A number that was ported into Fax.Plus can be ported out, so start the port while the Fax.Plus account is open and cancel Fax.Plus once the number lands, in the order laid out in how to port a fax number before you cancel. A number that Fax.Plus assigned stays with Fax.Plus, so the practice takes a new Fax Pigeon number and keeps the Fax.Plus plan active until senders have the new number.
