How to cancel SRFax and keep your number
SRFax closes an account two ways, through My Account or a support ticket. Port your number first: its terms say you do not own it, and refunds are processed within 35 days.

Port the number first, then cancel. SRFax closes an account two ways, through My Account or a support ticket, and each ends with a confirmation email. Its terms say you do not own any SRFax number and let SRFax give your number to another customer when service ends. Refunds are processed within 35 days of cancellation.
How do you close an SRFax account?
Close it yourself in the portal or ask support to do it. The portal path is My Account, then Close Account, and a few questions come before the account closes. The support route is a ticket asking SRFax to close the account. Separately, the form on SRFax's Contact page lists Account Cancellations as a Billing topic. The cancel article is silent on notice, billing, refunds, stored faxes and the number. The terms of service speak to notice, billing, refunds and the number, and the sections below quote them.
Is Disconnect the same as canceling?
No. Disconnect is a link beside each number on the Account Summary page, and it stops inbound faxes on that number, for a while or for good. The account stays open. SRFax's Disconnect Number page says so too and points to the close account request form under My Account, then Close Account. While a number is disconnected, a sender's fax fails, and reconnecting can take up to 10 minutes. Neither page says anything about billing.
| Disconnect | Close Account | Support ticket | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ends the account | No | Yes | Yes, staff close it |
| Confirmation email | Not mentioned | Yes, once the account is closed | Yes, once the request is processed |
| Can be undone | Yes, reconnecting can take up to 10 minutes | Not stated | Not stated |
Leave the number connected until the port lands, because a disconnected number fails every sender's fax.
What do SRFax's terms say about your number?
The Ownership section opens with the rule: "You agree that you are not the owner of any SRFax Number." It adds that the phone network carrier generally reserves ownership of numbers, and that SRFax can alter or reassign a number if the owner requires it. SRFax promises notice as soon as it learns that a change is likely. The sentence that matters at cancellation comes last: on termination SRFax "may allocate any SRFax Numbers to another customer without reference to you."
How do you give SRFax notice?
Notice goes to SRFax by email, fax or conventional mail, and SRFax's verification procedures apply on top of that. SRFax sets and changes those procedures at its sole discretion, and they may include a phone call to confirm that you sent the notice. SRFax's Contact page lists its toll-free number as 1-866-554-0263. Mailed notices go to an address in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and British Columbia law governs the agreement.
Either side can end the account at any time, for any reason, on notice. The terms name no notice period for a customer who cancels. The only notice period they name is 7 days, which SRFax gives a customer in breach along with a chance to cure it.
Which order keeps the number?
Port first, then cancel. SRFax can give the number away once service ends, so the port has to finish while the account is open. The steps are in How to port a fax number before you cancel. SRFax's porting page and help articles describe numbers coming in. For a number going out they give no steps, fee or timing, so ask for them in a ticket and keep the reply. When the number is live at the new provider, close the account and save the confirmation email, because the refund clock runs from the cancellation date.
Keep the account paid until then. Every charge runs by automatic payment, and the terms add a $40 fee whenever a payment is reversed or canceled, so close the account through SRFax rather than stopping a payment at the card. Overdue balances carry penalty interest of 2% a month, compounding, plus the cost of collection. SRFax may end service on an unpaid account without warning. A payment dispute has to reach SRFax in writing within 7 days of the invoice date.
What does SRFax refund when you cancel?
The Refund Policy applies to any account. It refunds the "full month's remaining", calculated from the cancellation date and less any usage charges due then, and it says nothing about a part month. Its last sentence sets the clock: "All refunds will be processed within 35 days of your cancellation date."
What happens to your faxes and your BAA when the account closes?
SRFax's cancel article and terms say nothing about stored faxes. Its help pages describe the open account instead. Faxes more than 6 months old sit in an archive view, and the Fax Retention Settings, under Settings and then General, count in months how long received and sent faxes stay on the account until SRFax deletes them for good. Download what the practice needs first.
SRFax signs a BAA on request, through a form on its Contact page. The Privacy Rule requires a BAA to provide for the return or destruction of PHI at termination where feasible (45 CFR 164.504(e)(2)(ii)(J)). A practice can check its own signed copy for that clause.
Where does the number go next?
Fax Pigeon ports a number in free on every paid plan. Most transfers finish in 5 to 15 business days, and the number keeps working at SRFax until then. Every plan includes a signed BAA, executed at signup, from $4.99 a month billed annually for 200 pages (plans and pricing). The side-by-side with SRFax's plans is in Fax Pigeon vs SRFax.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I cancel my SRFax account?
- Sign in and go to My Account, then Close Account, or file a support ticket asking SRFax to close it. The portal route asks a few questions first, and staff do the closing on the ticket route. Either way SRFax emails a confirmation. Port the number to the new provider before you start, because SRFax's terms say you do not own it.
- Can I keep my SRFax number when I cancel?
- Only if the port finishes while the account is open. SRFax's terms say you do not own any SRFax number and let it give a number to another customer when service ends. Its pages publish no steps for porting a number out, so start the port at the new provider and ask SRFax for its process in a ticket.
- Does disconnecting my SRFax number cancel my account?
- No. Disconnect stops inbound faxes on one number, and SRFax's pages say it does not cancel the account. Senders get a failed fax while the number is disconnected, and reconnecting can take up to 10 minutes. Closing the account is a separate step, under My Account and then Close Account. Neither page mentions billing.
- How long does SRFax take to refund after I cancel?
- Within 35 days. SRFax's terms give it 35 days from the cancellation date to process every refund. The refund is for the 'full month's remaining', worked out from the cancellation date, less any usage charges due then. The terms state no notice period for a customer who cancels.
- Does SRFax charge a fee to cancel?
- SRFax's cancel article and terms state no cancellation fee. The terms do charge $40 whenever a payment is reversed or canceled, and 2% a month, compounding, on overdue balances, so close the account through SRFax instead of stopping a payment at the card. SRFax may also end service on an unpaid account without warning.
- What happens to my faxes when I close my SRFax account?
- SRFax's cancel article and terms say nothing about stored faxes. Its help pages cover the open account: faxes more than 6 months old sit in an archive view, and the Fax Retention Settings set how long faxes stay on the account before SRFax deletes them for good. Download what you need first. HIPAA requires a BAA to provide for return or destruction of PHI at termination where feasible (45 CFR 164.504(e)(2)(ii)(J)).
