Is FaxRx HIPAA compliant?
FaxRx at fax-rx.com can carry patient information once its BAA is signed, which it does during onboarding on all three plans, $15 to $99 a month. Its sign-up steps put the signature after payment.

FaxRx at fax-rx.com can carry patient information once its Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is signed, and it has every customer sign one during onboarding on all three plans: Starter at $15 a month, Professional at $39 and Enterprise at $99. FaxRx's own About page says a BAA does not make a practice HIPAA compliant by itself. Fax Pigeon sells HIPAA fax, so read this as a seller's comparison. Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA, executed at signup.
The name is shared. FaxRx's About page lists TELUS Health's FaxRx Cloud as an unrelated product. This page covers fax-rx.com.
Which FaxRx plans come with a BAA?
All three. FaxRx's pricing page puts the BAA on every plan, the $15 Starter included, and its HIPAA page adds that it costs nothing extra and needs no request. Billing is month to month. Receiving is unmetered, so the page budget counts only pages sent.
| Plan | Month to month | Pages that count each month | People | BAA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FaxRx Starter | $15 | 300 sent | 3 | Signed during onboarding |
| FaxRx Professional | $39 | 1,000 sent | 10 | Signed during onboarding |
| FaxRx Enterprise | $99 | 3,000 sent | Unlimited | Signed during onboarding |
| Fax Pigeon Basic | $5.99, or $4.99 billed annually | 200 sent plus received | Unlimited | Signed at signup |
| Fax Pigeon Standard | $11.99, or $9.99 billed annually | 500 sent plus received | Unlimited | Signed at signup |
The units differ. A month of 100 pages sent and 100 received is 100 pages at FaxRx and 200 at Fax Pigeon. FaxRx's pricing table lists extra pages at 8¢, 6¢ and 5¢, and its pack list runs from 8¢ (50 pages, $4) to 6¢ (500 pages, $30). Fax Pigeon's extra pages are 10¢ on Basic and 5¢ on Standard, billed on a separate invoice. Online fax services that sign a BAA compares how nineteen services sign theirs.
Can you read FaxRx's BAA before you pay?
Not on its public pages. None of the pages in FaxRx's sitemap links to the agreement, and the HIPAA page calls itself a summary and names the signed BAA and the Terms of Service as the binding documents. The About page puts payment ahead of the signature: the Terms and the BAA are signed after a plan is chosen and paid for, and before the account sends a fax or claims a number. FaxRx has no free trial, and its terms refund fees only where the law requires.
Two questions are worth sending to hello@fax-rx.com, the address on the HIPAA page, before the first patient fax: which legal entity signs, because the About page lists no entity name, street address or phone number, and who its subprocessors are, because FaxRx publishes none of their names and gives customers the list on request.
What does FaxRx say its BAA covers?
The Privacy Rule lists what a BAA must contain: permitted uses and disclosures, plus the vendor's duty to use safeguards, report improper uses and breaches, bind its subcontractors, help the practice answer a patient who asks to see a record, correct it or learn who received it, open its books and records to HHS, and return or destroy the PHI at termination where feasible. The contract must also let the practice end it for a material violation (45 CFR 164.504(e)(2)).
FaxRx's HIPAA page calls FaxRx the practice's business associate and describes most of that list. None of FaxRx's public pages mentions the books-and-records duty or a right to end the contract over a material violation, so the signed agreement is where to confirm both. FaxRx promises breach notice without unreasonable delay and within 60 days of discovery, which is the regulation's outer limit for a business associate (45 CFR 164.410).
What would make FaxRx compliant for your practice?
A signed agreement on file before the first patient fax, and your own safeguards around it. A covered entity may let a business associate create, receive, maintain or transmit PHI if it obtains satisfactory assurance, and the assurance must be documented in a written contract or other written agreement (45 CFR 164.502(e)). FaxRx's About page says a BAA and a HIPAA-built fax service "do not by themselves make a practice HIPAA compliant." Its HIPAA page leaves recipient checks, mailbox choices, user access and patient authorizations with the practice, and says it cannot guarantee a mailbox's security once an emailed fax leaves its systems.
The answer changes if the signed agreement lacks an item the rule lists, or if patient information goes through FaxRx before the signature.
What do FaxRx's terms say about refunds and closing the account?
From FaxRx's terms and About page:
- Fees are not refunded. Neither a subscription nor a pack earns a refund unless the law demands one. Cancelling ends renewals while the current period stays paid for, and a leftover pack balance is forfeited when the account closes.
- Sending stops at zero. FaxRx bills no automatic overage. An account that has used its pages cannot send until it buys a pack, moves up a plan or reaches its renewal.
- Closing stops receiving. A closed account's numbers go dead for incoming faxes and are kept for 30 days, and an admin can sign in during that window only to download faxes.
Who should switch from FaxRx?
- A practice with more than 3 people. FaxRx Starter includes 3 team members and Professional 10. A practice of six that sends 200 pages and receives 200 a month needs Professional at $39; that month counts 400 pages at Fax Pigeon, inside Standard's 500 at $11.99, with unlimited people on every plan.
- A practice that wants the BAA in place before it pays. Fax Pigeon executes the BAA at signup, and the free first fax, up to 10 pages with no credit card, goes out under the same signed agreement.
- A practice that wants a refund window. Fax Pigeon refunds in full within 72 hours of the first payment (once per customer), and you cancel anytime in Settings and keep service to the end of the paid period.
- A practice that wants AI summaries of inbound faxes, e-signatures, delivery certificates and a shared inbox with roles and assignment on every plan, from $4.99 a month billed annually.
Start the port at Fax Pigeon from Settings while the FaxRx account is open, because a closed FaxRx account's numbers stop receiving faxes. A port is free and takes most transfers 5 to 15 business days while FaxRx serves the number, and the steps for a clean switch give the order. HIPAA fax with unlimited users compares user caps. The pricing page lists all six Fax Pigeon plans.

Frequently asked questions
- Is FaxRx HIPAA compliant?
- It can be, once your practice has signed FaxRx's BAA and keeps its own safeguards in place. FaxRx at fax-rx.com has each customer e-sign a Business Associate Agreement during onboarding on Starter ($15 a month), Professional ($39) and Enterprise ($99). Its About page says a BAA does not make a practice compliant by itself. Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA, executed at signup.
- Does FaxRx sign a BAA?
- Yes, on every plan. FaxRx's pricing page puts the BAA on all three plans, the $15 Starter included, with no separate fee. The About page places the signature after choosing a plan and paying, and before the account sends a fax or claims a number. Fax Pigeon executes its BAA at signup on every plan.
- Can I read FaxRx's BAA before I pay?
- Not on FaxRx's public pages. None of the pages in its sitemap links the agreement, and its HIPAA page is a summary. FaxRx has no free trial, and its About page lists the BAA after plan selection and payment. Questions go to hello@fax-rx.com. Fax Pigeon's free first fax, up to 10 pages with no credit card, goes out under the same signed BAA.
- How much does FaxRx cost?
- FaxRx Starter is $15 a month for 300 outbound pages and 3 team members, Professional is $39 for 1,000 pages and 10 members, and Enterprise is $99 for 3,000 pages and unlimited members, all month to month. Receiving is unmetered. Fax Pigeon counts pages sent plus received: Basic is $5.99 a month for 200 pages and Standard is $11.99 for 500, with unlimited people.
- Does FaxRx charge for received faxes?
- No. FaxRx counts only the pages you send against its monthly budget, and receiving is unmetered on every plan. Fax Pigeon counts pages sent plus received, so 100 pages sent and 100 received is 100 pages at FaxRx and 200 at Fax Pigeon. Compare plans using your own sent and received totals.
- Is FaxRx the same as TELUS FaxRx Cloud?
- No. FaxRx at fax-rx.com says it is unrelated to FaxRx Cloud, an add-on that TELUS Health sells with its pharmacy software, and has no connection to TELUS Health. Check the domain before relying on any HIPAA claim: this page covers fax-rx.com only.
