The SRFax Healthcare plans cost less than eFax Business at all four page counts, and each Fax Pigeon row costs less than both rivals in its tier.
SRFax also prices MediPlan 500, MediPlan 1000 and MediPlan 2500 on another page, at $10.70, $19.50 and $48.80 a month billed annually. That page does not say whether sent and received pages combine, so the tables use the Healthcare plans, whose cards say they do. Fax Pigeon Standard at $9.99 costs less than MediPlan 500, and Fax Pigeon Plus at $16.99 costs less than MediPlan 1000.
The eFax pricing page bills extra faxes sent or received within the U.S. and Canada at the plan's overage rate. On certain plans, the eFax Customer Agreement counts a page as the greater of its actual pages or its full and partial 60-second increments of transmission time. Fax Pigeon counts pages a month, sent and received, and bills pages past the allowance at the plan's own rate on a separate invoice (Fax Pigeon plans).
How does each company sign its BAA?
SRFax signs a BAA on request, through a Request a BAA button on pages that print no BAA price, and eFax prints its BAA on the Business and Corporate cards. The eFax HIPAA page lists eFax Business, eFax Corporate, eFax Unite and jSign as covered. Fax Pigeon signs its BAA at signup on every plan, the free first fax included, and the text is at faxpigeon.com/baa.
Under 45 CFR 164.502(e)(2), the satisfactory assurance a covered entity obtains from a business associate must be documented in a written contract or other written agreement, and 164.504(e) sets what that contract must contain.
How many users does each plan include?
eFax Business includes 5 users and charges $10 a month for each extra user. SRFax's healthcare plans list multiple user accounts and print no count, and its general FAQ allows unlimited outbound users on every plan except the Basic Plan. Each additional fax number costs $4.95. Fax Pigeon includes unlimited people on every plan at no extra cost.
Who owns the number, and what does leaving cost?
Under both companies' terms, the customer does not own a number the company issued. SRFax's terms say the customer is "not the owner of any SRFax Number" and that SRFax may allocate any SRFax Number to another customer once service ends.
eFax keeps the numbers it provides, other than ported-in numbers, as its exclusive property, and its Customer Agreement says a number "may be immediately re-assigned to another customer" after the account ends. A number you ported in can leave for $40 per number, if the account is paid up and eFax receives written notice, the fee and the new provider's port request within 30 days after the account ends. The $40 is not refunded if technical or procedural problems block the port.
| Term | SRFax | eFax | Fax Pigeon |
|---|---|---|---|
| An issued number after the account ends | Not the customer's; may go to another customer | Stays with eFax; may be re-assigned | Free to port out |
| A number you ported in | Not published | $40 per number to port out | Free to port out |
| Refund when you cancel | Full months remaining, less usage, within 35 days | None for the monthly period you cancel in | Full refund within 72 hours of the first payment, once per customer |
| How you cancel | Notice under its verification steps, which may include a phone call | Account closes at the end of the billing cycle | Cancel anytime in Settings |
eFax does not refund prepaid fees after termination, and an unused usage prepay balance is forfeited. Per-attempt billing and the extra-number and extra-user prices are in eFax pricing, explained.
Who should switch from SRFax or eFax?
A practice that wants a BAA for 200 to 500 pages should switch to Fax Pigeon Basic or Fax Pigeon Standard, at $4.99 and $9.99 a month billed annually. Porting a number in is free on every paid plan, and most transfers take 5 to 15 business days. A number eFax issued stays with eFax, so the switch gives the practice its own dedicated number. The steps are in How to port a fax number before you cancel.
