Yes. Fax Pigeon's month-to-month plans start at $5.99 with the BAA signed at signup, and a cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. WestFax bills Solo and Team monthly with no contract, and SRFax lets either side end the account at any time; eFax, iFax and Fax.Plus renew automatically and refund no unused subscription time.

Is there a HIPAA fax service without a long contract?

Fax Pigeon, WestFax and SRFax each sell HIPAA fax month to month with a BAA. Fax Pigeon's Basic plan is $5.99 a month for 200 pages, Standard is $11.99 for 500 pages and Plus is $17.99 for 1,000 pages, and its Terms of Service allow a cancellation at any time on monthly and annual plans.

Every Fax Pigeon plan includes a signed BAA at signup, and Fax Pigeon's BAA can be read in full before paying. Fax Pigeon has no team plans, because every plan includes unlimited people at a flat price, a biller included. An extra page costs 10 cents on Basic and 5 cents on Standard.

After confirming an email address, a practice can send one fax of up to 10 pages with no credit card, from a shared number under the same signed BAA. Paid plans send and receive from the practice's own number.

Which providers bill month to month, and which plan carries the BAA?

Fax Pigeon, WestFax, SRFax, eFax, Fax.Plus, Sfax and Documo all bill monthly, and the BAA comes with every plan at Fax Pigeon, WestFax and Documo, with Business at eFax, with Plus and Pro at iFax, with Enterprise only at Fax.Plus, with Plus and up at Sfax, and on request at SRFax. The table sets each provider's terms side by side, in its own words.

eFax's HIPAA page lists eFax Business, eFax Corporate and eFax Unite as the products with BAA coverage, and its Customer Agreement tells a customer not to store protected health information with eFax without a BAA and a HIPAA-appropriate level of service. Sfax's sign-up page prints BAA Available from its Plus plan up, and SRFax's Healthcare Solutions page offers a Request a BAA button.

How do you cancel at each provider?

Each provider names its own cancel route: Fax Pigeon in the service, eFax in its account portal, WestFax by phone, iFax in the app's Settings, Fax.Plus before the renewal date, SRFax by notice, Sfax by ticket, email or its billing system, and Documo in its customer portal under Billing.

eFax's cancel page sends customers with multiple fax numbers, an outstanding balance or an annual plan to chat, email or phone. iFax's Terms of Use require canceling at least 24 hours before the end of the renewal, and Fax.Plus advises canceling at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

SRFax's terms of service let either side end the account at any time, with or without cause, upon notice, and the customer's notice may need confirming by phone. Documo's subscription agreement points to its order agreement for the contract term.

Sfax's help center gives two routes on two dates. An article last updated October 27, 2021 asks for 30 days' notice by support ticket or email, and one last updated July 1, 2022 says to select Cancel in the Subscription section of its billing system. The full sequences for two of these providers are in how to cancel eFax and keep your number and how to cancel SRFax and keep your number.

What is refunded when you cancel?

SRFax refunds the full months remaining, less usage charges, within 35 days of the cancellation, and Fax Pigeon refunds the current period once, when a subscription is canceled within 72 hours of its start; eFax, iFax and Fax.Plus refund no subscription time.

eFax's Customer Agreement treats a cancellation on any day of a monthly period as use of that month. Fax.Plus's refund policy says "cancel anytime" stops future charges and refunds no current or past charge, renewals included. iFax makes every payment final and non-refundable, and it turns on an auto top-up by default that charges the payment method when usage reaches 95% of the plan limit.

SRFax charges $40 for each reversed or cancelled payment. Sfax's 2021 article allows no refunds and no proration for partial months, and its free-trial article says a plan cancelled within 14 days of signing up is not charged.

Fax Pigeon's 72-hour window opens once in a customer's lifetime, at the first successful charge on the first paid subscription that customer starts as an account owner. Outside that window, a Fax Pigeon cancellation keeps the plan, the number and the stored documents through the end of the billing period, with no further charge.

Is annual billing a contract?

Annual billing at Fax Pigeon is a twelve-month commitment: the annual price reflects the full term, and unused time on a canceled annual plan is not refunded or prorated. Basic is $5.99 a month on month-to-month billing, or $4.99 a month billed annually at $59.88 for the year.

The annual savings the providers print are SRFax 15%, eFax up to 17%, Documo up to 20%, Fax.Plus up to 22% and Sfax one month free. Fax.Plus converts an annual plan bought by mistake to monthly if no fax has been sent on it and support hears ideally within 72 hours of the purchase.

eFax's agreement renews automatically for the plan's renewal term. Fax Pigeon may change pricing only with at least 30 days' notice before the next renewal date. On Fax Pigeon, an upgrade takes effect right away for the prorated difference, and a downgrade waits for the next renewal.

What happens to your fax number and your faxes when you cancel?

A fax number and its faxes stay reachable after a cancellation for as long as each provider allows: Fax Pigeon keeps both through the paid period and the documents read-only after it, Fax.Plus holds the number 30 days, and eFax closes the account at the end of the billing cycle.

Fax.Plus pauses a canceled account the day after the paid period ends, so it cannot send or receive. Thirty-one days after the period ends, Fax.Plus moves the account to its Free plan and releases the number. Sfax says its service must stay active to port a number out.

A Fax Pigeon number stays active and assigned until the cancellation takes effect, and porting it out to another provider is free at any time before release. Fax documents then stay readable until the account is deleted or their destruction is requested, so a practice that closes or changes hands can still retrieve its fax records.

How do you leave a provider without losing your number?

Leaving without losing the number takes the port first and the cancellation last, with the old account open until the number arrives.

  1. Start the port at the new provider while the old account is still active.
  2. Keep the old service paid until the number lands. Most transfers into Fax Pigeon finish in 5 to 15 business days, and the number keeps working with the current provider until then.
  3. Send a test fax to the number and confirm it reaches the new inbox.
  4. Cancel the old account by its own route: at least 24 hours before renewal at iFax and Fax.Plus, and by phone at WestFax.

Porting into Fax Pigeon is free on every paid plan and starts at sign-up or from Settings. What each provider charges to release a number is in how to port a fax number before you cancel.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a HIPAA compliant fax service without a long contract?
Yes: Fax Pigeon bills month to month from $5.99 a month for 200 pages, with a signed BAA at signup on every plan and cancellation at any time. WestFax bills its Solo and Team plans monthly with no contract and includes a signed BAA on every plan. SRFax lets either side end the account at any time and signs a BAA on request.
Which online fax services let you cancel anytime and still sign a BAA?
Fax Pigeon and WestFax let a practice cancel at any time and include a signed BAA on every plan. Fax Pigeon cancels in the service, on monthly and annual plans, and WestFax cancels with a call to its Customer Service. Fax.Plus also lets a customer cancel anytime and keeps its BAA on Enterprise only, while eFax puts the signed BAA on its Business plan.
Do online fax services refund the rest of the month when you cancel?
eFax, iFax and Fax.Plus refund no unused subscription time when you cancel, and eFax counts any day of a monthly period as that month's use. SRFax refunds the full months remaining, less usage charges, within 35 days. Fax Pigeon gives one full refund of the current period to a customer who cancels within 72 hours of the first charge, and after that window service continues to the end of the paid period.
What happens to my fax number when I cancel an online fax service?
The fax number stays with the old account only until the cancellation takes effect or a hold runs out. Fax Pigeon keeps the number active until the cancellation takes effect and ports it out free at any time before release. Fax.Plus holds the number for 30 days after the paid period, then releases it. Sfax says its service must stay active to port a number out.
Is annual billing a contract for online fax?
At Fax Pigeon, annual billing is a twelve-month commitment: the discounted price reflects the whole term, so a canceled annual plan gets no refund or proration for unused time. Month-to-month billing renews each month until canceled. Fax.Plus will switch an annual plan bought by mistake to monthly when no fax was sent on it and support hears, ideally within 72 hours of the purchase.
Can I get a refund if I cancel Fax Pigeon right after signing up?
Yes, once: a Fax Pigeon subscription canceled within 72 hours of its start can end at once with a full refund of the price paid for the current billing period. Each customer gets that window one time, starting with the first successful charge on the first paid subscription the customer starts as an account owner. After that, a cancellation runs to the end of the paid period.
